German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier today, December 27, announced that he is dissolving the parliament (Bundestag).
Deutsche Welle reports this.
Steinmeier also called early elections for February 23, 2025.
At the beginning of November this year, the ruling coalition in Germany, which included the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the Free Democratic Party (VDP) and the Union90/Greens party, collapsed in Germany.
On December 16, the Bundestag expressed no confidence in the Scholz government, which allowed Steinmeier to dissolve parliament and call early elections.
