The Estonian Ministry of Defense says it plans to send a clear signal: the country will protect communications through military means.
Patrol ships of the Estonian Navy will guard the Estlink 1 submarine cable, which provides energy links between Estonia and Finland, starting December 27. This was reported by the country’s Ministry of Defense.
“Of course, the investigation should find out all the details of the destruction of the Estlink 2 cable and communication cables, but our task is to immediately send a clear signal that we are ready to protect the communications between Estonia and Finland by military means,” said Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur.
According to him, after the destruction of Estlink 2, it is important to maintain the energy connection between Estonia and Finland and ensure the protection of critical infrastructure.
“Early in the morning we sent a group on the road that will start patrolling Estlink 1. In addition, we are actively communicating with the Finnish fleet and the Finnish border guard and are acting in a coordinated manner,” stressed the Deputy Commander. of the Navy, Fleet Captain Juhan-Elias Seljamaa.
The Estonian Navy will send the Raju ship to the Estlink 1 cable.
As you know, on December 26, three communication cables between Estonia and Finland failed. The tanker Eagle S is suspected, which may be part of the “shadow fleet” of the Russian Federation.
