A Russian agent is preparing a homemade braking device – a “shoe”, capable of causing an accident with a train bullet.
Ukrainian counterintelligence officers exposed the Russian GRU intelligence network and prevented large-scale sabotage of Ukrzaliznytsia facilities. The SBU reported this on Friday, December 27.
The enemy planned to derail trains with military cargo of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which could cause serious damage to the defense capabilities of our state.
The imprisoned man, a resident of Rivne, acted on the instructions of his handlers from the temporarily occupied Crimea – the network organizer Roman Yakimchuk and the “connector” Alexander Ignatiev.
According to the SBU, these two asked the leadership of the Russian GRU for 100 thousand dollars to carry out the operation, although the contractor was promised only 40% of the amount.
The defendant prepares a homemade braking device – a “shoe”, capable of causing an accident with a train bullet. And to record the terrorist attack, he disguised several cameras in the form of bird’s nests.
SBU operatives immediately neutralized the attacker, documented his criminal activities and announced the suspicion of all participants in the intelligence network under articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
-
high treason (part 2 of article 111),
-
inciting sabotage (part 1 of article 14, part 4 of article 27, part 2 of article 113),
-
illegal possession of weapons (part 1 of article 263).
The detained agent is in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of assets.
It was previously known that the SBU and the National Police were “hot on their heels” detaining two Russian agents who on December 24 carried out a custom terrorist attack in Berdichev, Zhytomyr region.
