The military reported the destruction of targets in these villages, but there was no mention of civilian casualties.
A Nigerian Air Force fighter jet mistakenly dropped bombs on two civilian villages while pursuing militants. As a result, at least ten people died and several others were injured. Reuters reported this on Thursday, December 26.
The tragedy occurred in Sokoto state in northwestern Nigeria.
“The warplanes are on a mission to destroy the criminal armed groups that are menacing the state. But innocent residents of the community have been wrongly targeted,” said the state Governor, Ahmed Aliyu.
He added that an investigation has been launched into the military operation that led to the deaths in the villages of Gidan Sama and Rintuva.
Meanwhile, the military announced the destruction of targets in the said villages linked to the Lakurava militant group. At the same time, they did not say a word about the wounded civilians.
Let us recall that a few years ago, the Nigerian Air Force mistakenly attacked its troops, killing 20 people.
