Pope Francis has accepted the invitation to visit Ukraine, but so far the date of the visit has not been determined. The head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, His Beatitude Svyatoslav, spoke about this in an interview Radio Liberty on Thursday, December 26th.
The invitation was conveyed to the pontiff. Now the UGCC is confident that it has been accepted, however, when the visit will take place is still unknown.
“There is not yet (time for the visit), but sometimes Pope Francis likes to make surprises that he can announce a visit literally a month before he decides to go to Ukraine. So we enter the new year there is hope that a fair peace will still reign in Ukraine,” said the head of the UGCC.
Let’s remember that Francis in his Christmas message called for negotiations between Ukraine and Russia to end the war.
Earlier, Pope Francis was criticized when he said Ukraine should have the courage to “raise the white flag.” His words caused a great resonance, both in Ukraine and around the world.
Later, the press service of the Holy See explained that the Pope did not mean surrender, but a return to negotiations.
