The attack on law enforcement officers occurred on the morning of December 26 as a result of an “ambush” in the countryside of Tartus province.
In Syria, 14 policemen were killed and 10 wounded in an ambush by forces loyal to the ousted regime of Bashar al-Assad. This was reported by The Guardian referring to the representatives of the new authorities.
They said the attack was the result of an “ambush” organized by supporters of the previous regime. The incident took place in a rural area of Tartus province.
The interior minister of the transitional administration said 10 more police were wounded in the attack in Tartus. He promised strict measures against those who threaten the security of the country.
Widespread unrest continues in other regions of Syria, fueled by protests and the introduction of a night curfew. Because of the protests, the police imposed a curfew in the city of Homs. Protests there are led by representatives of religious minorities, particularly Shias and Alawites.
Let’s recall that earlier the leader of the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham Abu Muhammad al-Julani agreed with other rebel groups in Syria in their disbandment and unification in a structure under the leadership of the Ministry of Defense.
