The new fighters will replace the aging Tranche 1 models, modernizing Italy’s air fleet and strengthening the country’s defense capabilities.
The Italian Air Force will receive up to 24 new Eurofighter Typhoon fighters. The contract for the supply of the aircraft was signed in Rome by the NATO agency NETMA and the Eurofighter Typhoon consortium. ANSA reported this on Tuesday, December 24.
The total cost of the program is estimated at 7.47 billion euros.
The Italian partner of the consortium, Leonardo, will be responsible for the final assembly of the aircraft and their delivery to the customer. The company will also provide logistics support.
