Due to the cessation of transit of Russian gas through the Ukrainian gas transportation system in 2025, Ukraine is proposing to quadruple the tariff for transporting the resource for domestic recipients of the service.
As the League writes, if the draft of this decision is approved, an additional burden will fall on industrial enterprises. Their association during December actively emphasized the need to maintain current rates.
According to the director of special programs of the scientific and technical center “Psyche” Gennady Ryabtsev, an attempt to increase tariffs for the population can be made at the end of the heating season. However, he believes that the cost of the resource can even be reduced by market mechanisms if they are properly regulated.
According to one of the experts interviewed by LIGA.net, after the end of the heating season, the authorities may think about increasing the currently fixed gas prices for the population.
Russia earns much more money from exporting natural gas to Europe than Ukraine does from providing its infrastructure for its transit – $6.5 billion versus $800 million in 2023. This is the main argument of both the authorities and experts in favor of banning the transit of Russian gas.
We will not give the opportunity to earn additional billions in our blood,” Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said on December 18.
