Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced the suspension of EU accession negotiations until 2028, causing mass protests in the country.
Polish President Andrzej Duda called the current President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili and expressed his support for her, as well as for the European aspirations of the Georgian people. This was stated on Monday, December 23, in a statement from the press service of the Polish leader.
“I spoke with Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili about the situation in Georgia the current crisis is new elections on the recommendations of the OSCE,” – the office of the President of Poland quoted Duda’s words.
It is known that the President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili on Sunday, December 22, gave the authorities a week to call repeated parliamentary elections.
Meanwhile, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze threatened Zurabishvili with prison “if he does not leave the residence after the inauguration of his successor on December 29.”
Protests have continued in Georgia since November 28. They began after Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced the suspension of EU accession negotiations until 2028.
Let’s add that on December 14, the presidential election was held in Georgia. The electoral college elected Mikhail Kavelashvili as president. The current leader, Salome Zurabishvili, does not recognize the election results.
