Fedor Sandor is a Ukrainian of Hungarian descent from Transcarpathia; he is also a teacher at Uzhgorod National University.
President Vladimir Zelensky appointed a new ambassador of Ukraine to Hungary – volunteer Ukrainian from Transcarpathia Fedor Sandor. This is confirmed by Presidential Decree No. 876.
The position of Ukrainian Ambassador to Hungary has been vacant since July 2022 amid strained relations between the countries. Vladimir Zelensky dismissed Lyudmila Nepop from this position in July 2022.
Fedor Sandor is a Ukrainian of Hungarian descent, originally from the Transcarpathian region, who joined the army in February 2023, a fighter of the 101st Transcarpathian Territorial Defense Brigade.
Sandor is a professor at Uzhgorod National University. He is known online as the “trench professor” because in 2022, footage surfaced online of Sandor giving a lecture to his students while sitting in a trench between combat duties.
In 2020, Sandor was elected as a deputy of the Transcarpathian Regional Council of the 8th convocation from the Servant of the People party. Appointed deputy chairman of the standing commission of the regional council on cross-border cooperation, development of tourism and entertainment.
Subsequently, he ran for the Uzhgorod City Council of the 8th convocation from the Servant of the People party, but then he was not elected.
As we already wrote, Zelensky said in a video message that he agreed to the appointment of more than 30 Ukrainian ambassadors abroad.
