It is necessary for both Ukraine and Russia to approve a mandate for peacekeepers, including the Germans, they said in Berlin.
Germany is ready to send its peacekeepers to Ukraine, however, on the condition that Russia agrees to such a mission. This was said by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, Reuters wrote.
The head of the Bundeswehr noted that Germany could play an important role in securing a ceasefire agreement between Ukraine and Russia. One possible form of participation is the deployment of German peacekeepers.
“If there is a cease-fire, then, of course, the Western community, NATO partners, potentially the UN and the European Union will have to discuss how to ensure such peace, like a cease-fire. And it is it is clear that Germany, as the largest economy in Europe, has an important role to play here,” he said.
Pistorius emphasized that it is necessary for both Ukraine and Russia to approve a mandate for peacekeepers, including Germans.
“From my answer you will understand that now there are more questions than answers and that is why I cannot give you a comprehensive answer,” the minister said.
Remind you that earlier the media reported that the peacekeeping mission in Ukraine will be discussed at the summit of EU leaders. This idea is being promoted by French President Emmanuel Macron.
