This trip contradicts the statements made by African Union officials on February 24, 2022 regarding respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the visit of African diplomats to the occupied part of the Donetsk region, calling their purpose of the trip “to fight colonialism” “absolutely absurd.” This was stated in a statement of the Ukrainian diplomatic department on Monday, December 16.
Ukrainian diplomats expressed their sincere hope that this gesture does not reflect the official position of the African Union and the Pan-African Parliament.
“In this regard, we demand that the leadership of the African Union and the Pan-African Parliament strongly condemn the visit of its representatives to the territory of the Donetsk region of Ukraine temporarily occupied by Russia and in the future avoid any contact contact with representatives of the administration of the Russian occupation of the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine,” said the Foreign Ministry.
Representatives from Ethiopia, Tanzania, Malawi, Uganda, South Sudan, Comoros, Equatorial Guinea, Djibouti, Eswatini, Zambia, Somalia and Mozambique arrived in the temporarily occupied part of Ukraine.
Meanwhile, as the leader of the militants in the occupied part of Donbass Denis Pushilin said, each of the African parliamentarians “expressed support for Donbass and solidarity with the Russian Federation.” He added that, despite the “blockage of information,” they understand the “causes of the conflict.”
Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine called on Hungary to stop the statements about the ability to stop the war which are not true and to avoid unilateral contact with Russia.
