The Republic has ratified the Rome Charter and is obliged to arrest Putin if he appears on its territory.
Russian President Vladimir Putin will not receive an invitation to the G20 summit from the Republic of South Africa, which heads the international association from December 1. The reason is a warrant from the International Criminal Court in The Hague requesting the Putin’s arrest for the forced deportation of Ukrainian children, classified as a war crime, explained the official representative of the President of South Africa, Vincent Magwenya, RosSMI reports.
“The legal situation has not changed since the BRICS summit in Johannesburg, we cannot in any way influence the decision of the ISS,” said Magwenya, answering the question of whether South Africa plans to invite the Russian president to the G20 summit.
The Republic has ratified the Rome Charter and is obliged to arrest Putin if he appears on its territory. According to the preliminary agreement, the summit will take place in Johannesburg on November 21-22, 2025.
Previously, an ISS order prevented Putin from traveling to the BRICS summit in South Africa in August. This trip was supposed to be his first major visit abroad since the start of a full-scale war against Ukraine, but he decided not to risk it and sent Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov there.
In addition, Putin had to cancel his trip to the G20 summit, which took place on November 18-19 in Brazil. He himself said that he did not want to “disturb” the “normal work” of the forum with his presence, noting that otherwise “all the talk” was only about the warrant for his arrest. Lavrov again represented the Russian delegation at the summit.
Earlier, the Republic of South Africa expressed its readiness to join the efforts of the Vatican and Qatar and took the role of mediator in the return of Ukrainian children exiled by the Russians.
We remind you that Ukraine managed to return 1002 children from Russian territory and temporarily occupied lands, but the Russian Federation forcibly expelled about 20 thousand more. This was announced by Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmitry Lubinets.
Earlier, he said that the highest military-political leadership of the Russian Federation was engaged in the forced deportation of Ukrainian children.
