Lithuanian athlete Cornelia Dudaite was disqualified from the World Fitness Championships because of a T-shirt with the inscription “Make Russia small again”.
The reason was that she was wearing a T-shirt with the inscription “Make Russia small again,” which she wore as a sign of protest, since among the participants there was also a national team, which was supposed to perform under a neutral flag, but the announcer was under at the time of the announcement he called them Russians. In addition, racist athletes came out wearing T-shirts with the inscription of their country.
The organizers demanded that she take off her T-shirt, because it allegedly “insults Russian athletes.” Dudayte refused and dropped out.
We went to these competitions knowing that Russian athletes would take part in them. We were told that they would compete as neutrals. We have already felt what such neutral Russian athletes mean,” Dudayte said.
I had a T-shirt that was worn by the President of Ukraine, and I thought: if we need to show our civic position, then I will show it. When we arrived in Hungary, greetings from the organizers appeared on social networks, how they greet the Russians, how happy they are about their participation. I think this is wrong. I don’t think that an aggressor country can be welcomed,” she emphasized.
As a sign of protest, 28 athletes of the Lithuanian delegation abandoned the functional sports competitions taking place in Hungary.
