Homemade weapons

Shinzo Abe spoke at a rally near Nara railway station with a speech in support of his party’s candidate in Sunday’s upcoming elections for Japan’s upper house of parliament.

“He was giving a speech, and a man came from behind. The first shot was like a toy gun. It didn’t fall, there was just a loud sound. NHK.

The former prime minister was taken by ambulance to the nearest hospital, but there he died from his wounds. The doctor who tried to save Abe said four and a half hours as doctors fought for his life, trying to stop the bleeding. He received more than 100 bags of blood donations.

Authorities confirmed that one of the bullets hit the right side of the neck and Abe began to bleed under the skin on the side of the chest. When Abe’s death was announced at Nara Medical University Hospital, a doctor said no bullets were found.

Who fired

The suspect in the attack, 41-year-old Tetsuya Yamagami, was detained by police at the scene, and his weapon was confiscated. He offered no objection.

According to local media, Tetsuya was a former member of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.

Most likely, the attacker himself collected weapons. Photos taken during the suspect’s arrest show what appeared to be a homemade double-barreled shotgun.

Big freak

Violence in Guns in Japan are so rare, it’s almost impossible to have them here. Political attacks are also very rare.

Abe was accompanied by his team of security guards from special services, but somehow the shooter still managed to get close to a distance of only a few meters from him, without obstacles.

Attacking a high-ranking political man with a gun is a shock to a country that prides itself on its security.

Who is Abe

Abe has served as prime minister twice and ended up holding the position longer than any other head of the Japanese government.

He resigned in 2020, citing health problems, but, according to Reuters, he retained influence over the country’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party and controlled one of the party’s main factions.

The current prime minister, Fumio Kishida, is Abe’s protégé.

Shinzo Abe, the son of a former foreign minister and aunt of a former prime minister, took over the government for the first time in 2006 and at that time became the youngest prime minister in post -war Japanese history.

Abe’s first year as prime minister was full of scandals and political problems for his party, and a year later he resigned. The next time Shinzo Abe became head of government was in 2012 and remained in this post until 2020.
