The future president decided to eliminate the change between summer and winter in the United States. Musk and Ramaswamy also spoke on this matter.
US President-elect Donald Trump said Republicans will insist on eliminating daylight saving time, calling it “inconvenient” and “expensive,” The Hill wrote on Friday, December 13.
“The Republican Party will work to end Daylight Saving Time, with a small but powerful following. This should not happen! Daylight Saving Time is inconvenient and very expensive for our country,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Two of Trump’s top advisers, Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswami, who the president nominated to lead the new Department of Government Efficiency, also supported the idea
“Looks like people want to cancel the pesky time changes!” Musk wrote to X last month.
Ramaswamy responded by writing, “It is ineffective and easy to change.”
At the same time, Donald Trump Jr., the president-elect’s son, also responded to Musk’s post but appeared to take a position opposite to his father’s.
“Let’s leave daylight saving time forever!” Trump Jr. wrote, adding several “100” emojis to indicate his agreement with Musk.
Therefore, it is not yet clear whether Trump wants to abolish daylight saving time or make it permanent.
Lawmakers have repeatedly introduced bills to make daylight saving time permanent, but these efforts have consistently faced opposition and have never passed both houses of Congress. In March 2022, the US Senate voted unanimously to make daylight saving time permanent, but the effort stalled in the House.
Note that on March 26, 2019, the European Parliament voted to abolish the seasonal clock change starting in 2021.
As you know, on July 16, 2024, the Verkhovna Rada finally canceled the transition between summer and winter. The adopted law establishes a permanent time standard in Ukraine, UTC+2. However, the public organization Academy of Higher School Sciences called on President Vladimir Zelensky to veto the law. The final decision has not yet been made.
