Viber is blocked throughout the Russian Federation.
Roskomnadzor announced the blocking of the application on December 13, because the application allegedly violates the laws and requirements of the legislation of the aggressor country. These requirements imply that the messenger should not be used to recruit citizens for terrorist and extremist purposes, as well as for the sale of drugs. Russian propaganda writes about this.
Deputy of the State Duma of Russia Anton Nemkin said that Viber still allegedly has not paid the fines that were issued to it. The amount of these “fines” over the past two years has exceeded 1.8 million rubles (17 thousand dollars).
Let us remember that in August of this year Moscow blocked Russians’ access to YouTube. The popular video hosting site around the world has stopped opening on computers and mobile devices. Before this, the Russian dictatorship announced that it plans to significantly limit the speed of access to video hosting in order to make the use of YouTube in the aggressor’s territory uncomfortable.
Subsequently, Google finally turned off monetization in Russia. In particular, the contextual advertising service Google AdSense completely stopped its activities on the Russian Internet, and all user accounts from Russia were disabled.
