Moscow and Donald Trump seem to have “the same view on the reasons for escalation,” Dmitry Peskov said.
Russia is “impressed” by newly elected US President Donald Trump’s statement about Ukraine’s use of long-range American missiles to attack Russian territory. Kremlin Speaker Dmitry Peskov said this at a briefing on Friday, December 13.
“The statement fully corresponds to our position, that is, in this case, we have the same view on the reasons for the increase, and, of course, it attracts us that Trump understands that he is exaggerating the situation around the conflict,” he said.
At the same time, Peskov said that now it is “almost not worth going ahead and trying to predict” what the actions of the new American administration will be.
“Time will tell, we will wait until the moment the president-elect takes his place in the Oval Office,” the Kremlin spokesman added.
Let’s remember that Donald Trump is “categorically” against the fact that Ukraine launched American missile strikes on Russian territory. He said this in an interview with Time magazine.
The previous day, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that on December 11, Ukraine allegedly launched a strike with six ATACMS missiles on a military airfield in Taganrog, Rostov region. After that, the Kremlin threatened a “response.”
And now Russia has launched a massive attack on Ukraine’s energy sector. Moscow said this seemed to be the very “answer” for Taganrog, although it would take at least a week, not two days, to prepare an operation of this scale.
