US President-elect Donald Trump has become the “Man of 2024” according to the American Time magazine.
.
This was reported today, December 12, on the publication’s website.
Time notes that Trump’s “political rebirth is unparalleled in American history”:
- his first term ended in disgrace, and attempts to challenge the election ended in an attack on the Capitol;
- he was shunned by most party officials when he announced his candidacy in late 2022 amid multiple criminal investigations;
- Just over a year later, Trump cleared the field of Republican rivals, winning one of the fastest presidential primaries in history;
- during the general election, he spent six weeks in a New York courtroom, becoming the first former president to be convicted of a crime—a fact that had little effect on his support; in July, at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, an assassin’s bullet missed his skull by less than an inch;
- over the next four months, he defeated not one but two Democratic opponents, won all seven swing states, and became the first Republican to win the “popular vote” in 20 years.
Before this, Trump had already become “Person of the Year” in 2016.
