James Comey, the FBI director until he was fired by Trump in 2017, and Andrew McCabe, James Comey’s deputy and interim replacement, both faced highly detailed audits of their tax returns when the billionaire Republican was still in the White House.
Only a few thousand Americans are required to undergo this audit each year and must be selected at random. How these two men, both enemies of the former president because of their roles in the Russia investigation, were both able to be elected has raised questions. “Maybe it’s a coincidence, or someone tricked the taxman into going after a political enemy. Given the role that Trump wants to continue to play in our country, we need to know the answer to that question.”Mr. Comey told the New York Times, the first outlet to disclose the audit.
The US tax authorities confirmed in a press release that their boss requested an audit to shed light on this case. Donald Trump abruptly fired James Comey in 2017 while he was investigating foreign interference in the 2016 election that was suspected of contributing to the former businessman’s surprise victory.
