The official vehicle was badly damaged, but the driver and IAEA security officer were not injured.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) responded to the attack by Russian drones on the organization’s vehicles. The organization’s general director, Rafael Grossi, called it an attack on employees and said it was “unacceptable.” This was announced on Tuesday, December 10, on the organization’s website.
“As Director General of the IAEA, I strongly condemn this attack on IAEA staff. Fortunately, there were no casualties and our teams are safe. The round has been completed,” Grossi said.
President Vladimir Zelensky responded to the incident. According to him, this clearly shows Russia’s attitude to everything related to international law, international institutions and security.
“The Russians know exactly what they are doing and act consciously,” the president said, calling for a decisive response from international partners.
It is known that on December 10, a Russian drone attacked an official IAEA vehicle on the road to the temporarily occupied Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. The vehicle was badly damaged, but the driver and security officer were not injured. The incident took place eight kilometers from the front line in Ukrainian-controlled territory.
As is known, the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, which is occupied by the Russians, is on the verge of blackout three times a month due to damage to external power lines connecting it to the Ukrainian energy system.
