Poland’s prime minister said Warsaw was committed to playing a leading role in ending the conflict.
Peace negotiations between Ukraine and the Russian Federation could begin this winter. This is what the Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said, Reuters reports.
He also announced some planned meetings. Warsaw is committed to playing a leading role in ending the conflict and will “actively participate in any negotiations” when it assumes the EU presidency on January 1.
“Our delegation will be responsible… for what the political calendar will look like, perhaps how the situation will develop during the negotiations, which may, although still remain in doubt, begin this winter, ” explained Tusk.
He announced the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Warsaw on Thursday. Politicians will discuss Macron’s meeting with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and new US President Donald Trump.
Tusk also announced a visit to Warsaw by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The Prime Minister of Poland clarified that this will take place in the first days of Poland’s EU presidency.
“I want Poland to be a country that is not only present, but also sets the tone for decisions that ensure security,” Tusk said.
Let’s recall that on the morning of December 8, rebel forces in Damascus declared the capital “free” from longtime leader Bashar al-Assad. They said government institutions would remain under the administration of the former prime minister until the formal transfer of power. On Sunday afternoon, the Russian Foreign Ministry, an ally of the Syrian regime, issued a statement saying that Assad had left the presidency and Syria.
Later, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis also said that the events in Syria indicate the possibility of defeating Russia in Ukraine.
