A man who had previously been convicted of theft, together with two henchmen, devised a scheme for illegal enrichment.
In the Zhytomyr region, a man demanded $3,000 from a wounded soldier and his family and threatened to take their property. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to sources.
It was noted that a 42-year-old resident of the city of Zvyagel, previously convicted of robbery, together with two henchmen made a scheme for illegal enrichment. He and two of his acquaintances – a 53-year-old and a 52-year-old local resident – decided to blackmail the wounded soldier.
In November, a man went to the home of a 38-year-old military man and demanded $3,000 from him. The extortionist hopes that his condition will render the wounded soldier unable to fight. The attacker then took a TV from the military man’s house.
The next day the man came back and said the military relatives had 15 days to pay the $3,000. He also requested that the ownership title of the victims’ house be re-registered in his name.
The man put psychological pressure on the military man and his relatives. At the end of November, the attacker came to the military with an accomplice and threatened him with a knife. The defender’s relatives gave him 10 thousand hryvnias. Then he set the deadline for transferring the full amount to the spouses – December 3.
On the next visit, the military man and his wife gave $3,000 to the extortionists. However, after all the events were followed by the police and the extortionist was immediately imprisoned.
Currently, all three extortionists are reportedly suspected. They face seven to 12 years in prison with confiscation of assets.
We remind you that earlier the SBU neutralized a criminal group that kidnapped, tortured and demanded money from businessmen and military personnel in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
In the Cherkasy region, racketeers who “extorted” money from military wives were detained.
