Ukraine identifies the bodies of those allegedly killed in Il-76 handed over by Russia.
In January of this year, a plane carrying Ukrainian prisoners of war who were being transported for exchange crashed in Russia.
The Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War commented on the Russian Federation’s information about the transfer to Ukraine of the bodies of military personnel who probably died during the air crash of the IL-76 aircraft
They confirmed that indeed, during the latest repatriation activities to Ukraine, the remains of the victims were transferred from Russia, requiring additional identification.
As of today, expert institutions within the framework of criminal proceedings are establishing whether the remains of these persons really belong to Ukrainian military personnel,” the headquarters said in a statement.
Let us remind you that on January 24, a Russian Il-76 plane crashed in the Belgorod region of the Russian Federation. The Russian Ministry of Defense claims that there were 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war on board, being transported for exchange. Then the Main Intelligence Directorate confirmed that an exchange of prisoners was to take place, but noted that they had no information about whether there were Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemen on board.
On December 9, Russian Ombudsman Tatyana Moskalkova assured that terrorists from Osiya allegedly handed over to Ukraine the bodies of prisoners of war who, as the Russian side insists, died during the crash of an Il-76 in the Belgorod region.
