Among the main priorities of the future US president are pardoning the rioters who stormed the Capitol, eliminating automatic citizenship and prosecuting the guilty.
US President-elect Donald Trump said he would consider pardoning those involved in the 2021 Capitol storm on his first day back in the White House. He said this in an interview with NBC, which was broadcast on Sunday, December 8, reports the BBC.
Trump was asked if he would seek clemency for hundreds of people convicted of participating in the riot that saw his supporters attack Congress three months after losing the 2020 election.
“Yes, I will act very quickly. On day one,” Trump said.
According to him, “these people live in hell.”
“You know, by the way, they’ve been there for years, and they’re in a dirty, disgusting place that shouldn’t be allowed to open,” the Republican said.
He also promised to end automatic citizenship for everyone born in the US but offered to work with Democrats to help some undocumented immigrants who were brought to the US as children.
Trump also suggested that he would not ask the Justice Department to investigate incumbent President Joe Biden, but that some of his political opponents, including lawmakers investigating the Capitol riots, “should be locked up.”
Trump’s absolute power: where is the Republican dominance in the US?
