Biden announced strikes on ISIS bases and spoke about the role of Ukraine and Israel in toppling the Assad regime.
The United States has conducted airstrikes on military targets in Syria to prevent ISIS from resurging after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government. US President Joe Biden announced this on Sunday, December 8, in his speech at the White House, reports The New York Times.
Biden called Assad’s fall a “major act of justice” and expressed hope that after decades of repressive rule, the people of Syria will build a new, freer society. But he warned that this was also a “moment of risk and uncertainty” and that his administration would try to prevent terrorists from regaining their strength.
“We clearly understand the fact that ISIS will try to take advantage of any vacuum to restore its viability… We will not allow this to happen. Just now, US forces have carried out dozens of precision strikes, airstrikes, inside Syria, targeting ISIS camps and ISIS fighters,” – said Biden.
He added that the success of the rebels in Assad’s government was possible because he was not supported by Russia, Iran or Hezbollah.
“In the last week, their support has fallen, all three of them, because all three of them are weaker now than when I was in office,” Biden said.
“As a result, for the first time in history, neither Russia, nor Iran, nor Hezbollah were able to defend this abominable regime in Syria,” he added. “This is a direct result of strikes carried out by Ukraine and Israel “with the support of the United States.”
The US Central Command, which oversees military operations in the Middle East, said Sunday’s operation hit more than 75 targets in central Syria using B-52, F-15 and A-10 warplanes.
“Battle damage assessments are ongoing and there are no indications of civilian casualties,” the command said in a statement.
As reported, on Sunday morning the Israeli army confirmed that it has deployed forces in the buffer zone on the Syrian border, as well as in several other areas to protect Israeli citizens.
We remind you that last night the command of the Syrian army informed the officials that the reign of Bashar al-Assad has ended.
