Syrian rebels took control of the capital Damascus on December 8, marking the end of more than two decades of dictator Bashar al-Assad’s rule.
The head of the Polish government, Donald Tusk, linked the fall of the Syrian regime to the opportunity to defeat Russia and its allies.
“The events in Syria made the world understand again, or at least it should, that even the most brutal regime can fall, and Russia and its allies can be defeated,” said the Polish prime minister .
Let’s recall that on the morning of December 8, rebel forces in Damascus declared the capital “free” from longtime leader Bashar al-Assad. They said government institutions would remain under the administration of the former prime minister until the formal transfer of power.
On Sunday afternoon, the Russian Foreign Ministry, an ally of the Syrian regime, issued a statement saying that Assad had left the presidency and Syria.
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis also said that what is happening in Syria indicates the possibility of defeating Russia in Ukraine.
