SpaceX will expand Ukrainian Armed Forces access to more stolen Starshield satellites.
Elon Musk’s SpaceX has won a Pentagon contract to expand Ukraine’s access to a more secure, militarized version of its Starlink satellite network. Bloomberg reported this from messages in the Office of Commercial Satellites of the US Space Systems Command.
The contract stipulates that the 2,500 Starlink terminals already in Ukraine will be denied access to Starshield, a classified and encrypted signal through Starlink that is easier to jam. The price is for adding up to 500 terminals previously connected to Starshield.
“The contracts are intended to make it easier to connect to the Internet in Ukraine. The contracts will continue to provide services until 2025,” the department said.
The contract has already been placed with Serpna, and this information has not been disclosed before. The Space Systems Command decided to call for a new contract, although the initial agreement with the European Command of the US Armed Forces for 500 terminals was set at a total of 40 million dollars.
Apparently, earlier the head of the Ministry of Health of Poland, Radoslaw Sikorski, said that the Starlink terminals for Ukraine were funded and continue to be funded, including Poland, and not Elon Musk.
