The Russian Federation has lost more than 600 thousand soldiers in Ukraine and cannot protect the Assad government in Syria, said the US President-elect.
Russia cannot help Bashar al-Assad’s government in Syria during the rebel offensive, which has suffered heavy losses in the war in Ukraine. US President-elect Donald Trump announced this on the Truth Social social network on Saturday, December 7.
“Russia, which is deeply tied to Ukraine and has lost more than 600,000 soldiers there, seems unable to stop this literal march into Syria, a country it has defended for years,” the politician wrote.
According to Trump, the rebels have reached the outskirts of the capital Damascus and are “preparing to take massive steps to destroy Assad.” He added that now the Russians and Assad himself can leave the country and, in his words, “this could be the best thing that could happen to them.”
Trump also accused former US President Barack Obama of refusing to fulfill obligations in Syria, and later Russia intervened in this matter, which is why “all hell broke loose.”
“Anyway, Syria is a mess, but not our friend, and the United States should have nothing to do with it. This is not our fight. Let it work itself out. Don’t interfere,” Trump said.
We remind you that the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) took over the main city in eastern Syria – Deir ez-Zor. It is the third major city in a week that Assad’s forces have lost control of.
