The Romanian people should decide what is best for their country, said Ursula von der Leyen.
The European Commission will continue to monitor the platforms’ compliance with voter protection obligations. Romanians have the right to choose their own path. This is what EC President Ursula von der Leyen said on the social network X on Saturday, December 7.
The President of the European Commission had a telephone conversation with the current President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis.
He emphasized that the EC will continue to work to ensure that platforms comply with their obligations under the European Elections Digital Services Act.
“The Romanian people should decide what is best for their country, free from foreign interference,” von der Leyen said.
Let’s recall that in Romania, the pro-Russian far-right politician Calin Georgescu won the presidential election in the first round.
The Romanian Constitutional Court annulled the results of the first round of presidential elections. The reason for the cancellation of the results was Russian interference and cyber attacks. Now the country must call new elections.
