The politician said he regretted declaring martial law and vowed not to do it again. He is also ready to take responsibility.
South Korean President Yoon Seok-yol said he “sincerely regrets” his decision to impose martial law. He said this on Saturday, December 7, in a video message broadcast on national television, South Korea’s Yonhap News agency reported.
“I sincerely apologize, and I apologize to the people who, apparently, were very surprised that I say: there is no such situation as a second martial law,” said the president.
Yoon Seok Yeol also promised to take responsibility for his actions and not try to avoid punishment if it comes.
“I do not intend to avoid political and legal responsibility for actions related to the declaration of martial law,” the president said.
The president also added that he entrusted the task of stabilizing the country to his party and government, even at the cost of his own resignation. At the same time, he has no plans to voluntarily leave his post.
Let us remind you that on December 3, the President of South Korea declared martial law in the country. He named the reason as the opposition, which, according to him, is an “anti-state force” that paralyzes the work of the country. The decision sparked clashes with law enforcement officials and the military near the parliament building.
South Korea’s parliament has voted to end martial law. The opposition called on Yoon Seok-yeol to resign.
