Georgian authorities will continue to maintain a “regime of one-sided friendship” with Ukraine, Kobakhidze assured.
The Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze commented on the sanctions imposed by Ukraine against a number of Georgian officials, assuring that Georgia will remain in solidarity with the Ukrainian people. News Georgia reported this on Thursday, December 5.
According to him, the introduction of restrictions may indicate a “difficult situation of the Ukrainian authorities.”
“The introduction of sanctions in itself is an event that speaks of the difficult situation of the Ukrainian authorities… And the possible decision we are talking about is an echo of this situation,” said Kobakhidze.
He emphasized that the Georgian authorities will continue to maintain a “regime of one-sided friendship” with Ukraine.
“We remain committed to Ukraine and the people, and of course we stand in solidarity with them,” the head of government said.
Earlier, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili welcomed the Ukrainian leader’s decision.
We remind you that Zelensky signed a decree implementing the decision of the National Security and Defense Council to impose sanctions against the founder of the Georgian Dream party Bidzina Ivanishvili and 19 of his accomplices. The sanctions will be in effect for 10 years.
As you know, on November 28, the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, announced that Georgia was rejecting EU accession negotiations until 2028. This caused widespread protests. The police used tear gas and water cannons against the protesters.
