A significant number of objects are covered by the second level of protection, but the only comprehensive protection is air defense systems.
Most energy facilities in Ukraine are provided with “second level” protection, which allows minimizing the consequences of possible attacks. This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Energy Mykola Kolesnyk in a speech at the Ukrainian Energy Security Dialogue 2024, reports Suspilne.
According to him, the protection of the energy infrastructure of Ukraine is carried out in accordance with the approved official plan.
“Today, a large number of objects are closed by the second level of protection, which allows us to minimize the consequences The only comprehensive protection is the air defense systems will fly the bomb, the the only defense is to shoot it in front of the thing,” – said Kolesnik.
The official also explained the importance of power limit schedules.
“Electricity limitation schedules, hourly schedules are used to stabilize the energy system,” he emphasized.
Kolesnik emphasized the scale of threats to Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. According to him, on August 26, Russia used more than 260 weapons worth $1 billion in the attack.
“Our joint efforts with the Energy Communities allowed us to collect 700 million euros in energy support for 2 years and 9 months. This is proportional to our capabilities and the intentions of the enemy, unfortunately, this is the second front,” concluded Kolesnik.
Earlier, the Ministry of Energy said that the Russian Federation was conducting cyber attacks on the energy system before the attacks.
In total, since the beginning of a full-scale war, Russia has carried out 1,120 massive attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure facilities.
