A court in Essen, Germany, sentenced a group of teenagers who killed Ukrainian basketball players in Oberhausen, Germany, to 10 and 8.5 years in prison. WDR reported it.
It was noted that two of the attackers had German citizenship, the rest had Syrian citizenship.
At first, the prosecutor’s office thought the athletes were attacked because they were Ukrainians, but the court found no xenophobic motive in the criminals.
Criminals have committed violent crimes before. Therefore, prosecutors sought a sentence of 9.5 to 10 years in prison for them.
The crime is classified as a joint double murder. Two of the attackers were sentenced to 10 years in prison, two others to 8.5 years. The accused’s lawyers filed an appeal. The convicts apologized to the parents of the victims.
We remind you that in February, four teenagers from 14 to 15 years old attacked two basketball players of the youth national teams of Ukraine, 17-year-old Vladimir Ermakov and 18-year-old Artem Kozachenko. The victims were stabbed in the stomach and chest. Ermakov died at the scene, and Kozachenko died 10 days later in hospital.
