Scholz came on an unexpected visit to Kyiv. This is the Chancellor’s second visit since the start of Russia’s all-out invasion of Ukraine.
Bundestag deputy Roderich Kiesewetter called German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s visit to Kyiv “election campaigning at the expense of Ukraine.” Augsburger Allgemeine wrote this on Monday, December 2.
In particular, a Christian Democratic Union foreign policy expert said it was “a dishonest maneuver designed to counter growing criticism in Germany of Scholz’s irresponsible election campaign.”
“Scholz is campaigning at the expense of the Ukrainian population and at the same time giving Russian terror narratives. This is not only obscene, but he further isolates Germany and endangers our security,” Kiesewetter said.
He added that Ukraine needs an immediate invitation to NATO, as well as the provision of long-range weapons for attacks on military targets on the territory of the Russian Federation.
“Scholz definitely did not include Kyiv’s demands and repeatedly denied them to his defense minister. Therefore, this trip, first of all, is dishonest and an election campaign at the expense of Ukraine,” he added.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, in a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, explained why he recently called Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, despite the fact that the latter did not want to end the war.
Scholz announced the provision of a new package of military support to Ukraine in the amount of 650 million euros.
