The situation for the Russians in Syria is getting worse. Forces opposing the Assad regime supported by Russia are actively moving to the south of the country the first urban battles took place in the cities of Hama, Homs and Suwayda.
The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry informed about the worsening situation for the Russians in Syria. The intelligence data was published on the GUR telegram channel on Monday, December 2.
“Syrian kaput – Russians are fleeing Damascus. The situation for Russians in Syria is getting worse. Forces against the Russian-backed Assad regime are actively moving to the south of the country, the first urban battles took place in cities of Hama, Homs and Suwayda.”
It was noted that “the military contingent of the aggressor state escaped from Hama and evacuated to the Khmeimim base.” The head of the Russian coordination headquarters located in Khmeimim, Colonel General Alexander Zhuravlev, said that the situation is not under the control of the Assad regime.
The first armed unrest also began in Damascus – Russian military personnel and diplomats immediately began to leave the Syrian capital.
In addition, it was reported that the Russians fled from a military base in the city of Khan Sheikhoun, leaving a significant arsenal of weapons and equipment there.
GUR added that on December 1, Russian planes carried out airstrikes in the areas of Khan Sheikhoun – the purpose of the attack was probably the destruction of Russian military equipment that had been passed to the opposition forces.
“Against the background of the frightening flight of Russian troops, the news about the resignation of the commander of the Russian contingent, General Kisel, was actively disseminated on public pages in the Arabic language,” the message said.
According to the Main Intelligence Directorate, Colonel Vadim Baikulov, the commander of a unit of Russian special forces, was called on the carpet in Moscow. It will be noted that he must explain to the leaders why the personnel under his command were killed and the military equipment captured in Aleppo.
We remind you that the Syrian authorities have announced the “temporary withdrawal of troops” from the city of Aleppo. Media reported that rebels control more than 50 settlements in Idlib and Aleppo provinces.
In turn, Assad hastily flew to Moscow on Thursday, November 28, amid a massive rebel offensive against his army. After that, Russia, which is one of the main partners of the Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad, has already promised more military aid to Damascus.
