Rebels had already seized Aleppo’s airport and dozens of nearby towns on Saturday, as Syrian authorities announced the “temporary withdrawal of troops” from the city.
Aleppo, the second largest city in Syria, is no longer under the control of the Bashar al-Assad regime. This was reported by Al Arabia on Sunday, December 1.
“For the first time since the beginning of the conflict, Aleppo is not under the control of Syrian government forces,” the publication said, citing the head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Rami Abdel Rahman.
Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and allied opposition groups are said to be in control of the city of Aleppo. The exception is areas controlled by Kurdish units. Some northern parts of Aleppo, predominantly populated by Syrian Kurds, are under the control of the YPG (Syrian Kurdistan National Army).
Rebels also reportedly captured Aleppo airport and dozens of nearby towns on Saturday.
We remind you that the Syrian authorities have announced the “temporary withdrawal of troops” from the city of Aleppo. Media reported that rebels control more than 50 settlements in Idlib and Aleppo provinces.
In turn, Assad hastily flew to Moscow on Thursday, November 28, amid a massive rebel offensive against his army.
