DPRK troops are actively supporting Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, the minister emphasized.

Defense Minister of Ukraine Rustem Umerov held meetings with top South Korean officials during a visit to Seoul. One of the topics of discussion was increasing security. This was reported by the press service of the defense department on Wednesday, November 27.

Umerov met with South Korean President Yoon Seok-yol, Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun and National Security Adviser Jang Ho-jin. According to the Ukrainian minister, he reported the facts of the participation of the 12,000-strong military contingent of the DPRK in the war on the side of Russia.

“DPRK troops not only provide equipment and people, but actively support attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure,” Umerov said.

The head of the Ministry of Defense made it clear that such actions pose a great threat to South Korea, as North Korean soldiers will gain combat experience, which in the future may create additional security challenges in the region.

“Together with President Yoon Seok Yeol, we discussed common measures to strengthen security and stability. We believe that our arguments about the need to increase cooperation between Ukraine and the Republic of Korea will lead to a tangible strengthening of security of our citizens and region. ,” Umerov added.

Let’s recall that according to recent polls, South Koreans are against direct arms supplies to Ukraine, despite sending North Korean troops to the Russian Federation.

President Vladimir Zelensky said he expects Umerov to reach agreements with South Korea on countering the DPRK.
