The Ukraine-NATO Council met because of Russia’s launch of the Oreshnik ballistic missile.
The attack, which was aimed at the Dnieper River, is seen as another attempt by Russia to terrorize civilians in Ukraine and intimidate those who support Ukraine, which is defending itself against illegal and unprovoked Russian aggression, NATO added.
It also noted that Russia’s use of an experimental ballistic missile “will not change the course of the conflict and will not prevent NATO allies from supporting Ukraine.”
At the Ukraine-NATO Council meeting, creative solutions were sought to support Kyiv. Lithuanian Ambassador to NATO Davidas Matulionis spoke about this in a commentary to Radio Liberty.
The emergency meeting was devoted to the latest use of a new missile to strike Ukraine. According to the diplomat, the outcome of the meeting was that NATO will continue to increase support for Ukraine and “Putin will not intimidate us.”
The Ukrainian Mission to NATO reported that the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Kirill Budanov, and the acting commander of the Air Force, Anatoly Krivonozhko, joined the Council meeting online.
The G7 group of countries also responded to the strike on the Dnieper, assuring continued support for Ukraine.
Russia’s use of an intermediate-range ballistic missile on November 21 is further evidence of its reckless and escalatory behavior, the G7 statement said.
