This is the sixth Finnish citizen to die fighting against the Russian invaders for the independence of Ukraine.
During the front battles in Ukraine, a volunteer medic from Finland with the call sign Sipa, who fought against the Russian invaders as part of the Defense Forces, died. Your Finnish Friends, an organization that provides assistance to volunteers, announced this on Tuesday, November 26, on Facebook.
It is noted that the doctor died in eastern Ukraine, but in which place the organization did not specify.
“Sipa gave up all his possessions to go to Ukraine and defend the world, despite his mother’s strong objections. Sipa had a goal, and he didn’t give up on it. He was a Finnish war hero who died in defense of what he believes in. Now, he defends these values among the clouds,” the organization said in a statement.
The Finnish publication Yle wrote that he served as a medic in the 1st infantry platoon of the International Legion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Journalists pointed out that this is the sixth Finn to die in the war in Ukraine. The former Finnish fighter who died was Ville Mykkjanen, who was associated with the youth wing of the Center Party, who passed away in August.
In February 2024, the head of the Finnish Foreign Ministry’s consular department, Jussi Tannera, said that there were approximately 20-30 Finns fighting on the battlefield in Ukraine.
Another Georgian fighter, 24-year-old Levan Lokhishvili, died in the war in Ukraine.
We remind you that the 22-year-old Briton Callum Tindal-Dreyler, a soldier of the International Legion, died at the front. While defending Ukraine, volunteer fighter Wu Zhongda from Taiwan died.
