This decision is the first step, which creates the legal basis and provides the grounds for the governments of the NATO member countries to make the appropriate decision.
The NATO Parliamentary Assembly adopted a resolution in which a separate paragraph called on Alliance members to provide Ukraine with medium-range missiles. The corresponding decision was made the previous day.
The document contains a call to the governments and parliaments of NATO member countries:
-
tighten sanctions against Russia and North Korea;
-
provide Ukraine with all means necessary to defend itself and deter further aggression, including medium-range missiles.
The head of the permanent delegation of the Verkhovna Rada to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, People’s Deputy from the Servant of the People Yegor Chernev clarified that we are talking about missiles with a range of 1000-5500 km, capable of hitting strategic depth of the Russian Federation. He cited the American Tomahawk missiles as an example.
“The delegation of Ukraine managed to convince our colleagues in the West to support my proposal and include this item in the resolution of the next session of the Assembly countries to make an appropriate decision,” wrote Chernev on Facebook.
He recalled that at the last session, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, at the initiative of the Ukrainian delegation, called for permission for our state to strike deep into Russia. And so, emphasized the representative of the people, he raised this issue to the political level.
“We hope for a positive decision this time,” summed up Chernev.
Let’s recall that on October 29, The New York Times reported that the non-nuclear deterrence package announced by President Vladimir Zelensky in the Victory Plan provides for the transfer of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine. This is what senior US officials said.
In turn, Zelensky said that information about Tomahawk missiles is confidential – between Ukraine and the White House. In his opinion, the leakage of this information means that there is no confidentiality between the partners.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin responded to the possible transfer of Tomahawk to Ukraine.
