One of the mercenaries was lured to the Russian Federation with promises of lucrative work in the field of “security” and “engineering.”
Russia is treacherously recruiting hundreds of Yemeni Houthis to fight in Ukraine. It was reported by the Financial Times.
Yemeni recruits who traveled to Russia said they were promised high-paying jobs and even Russian citizenship. When they arrived in the Russian Federation, they were forced into the Russian army and sent to the front line in Ukraine.
American diplomats say the deal between the Kremlin and the Houthis is a sign of how far Russia is willing to go. Few Houthis have received training in Russia, even though Yemen is a poor country and suitable for recruiting mercenaries.
The Yemeni contracts indicate a company founded by the famous Houthi politician Abdulwali Abdo Hassan al-Jabri. Registration documents identify the company as a tour operator and retail supplier of medical equipment and pharmaceuticals.
The recruitment of mercenaries began in July. One of the contracts was dated July 3 and was signed by the head of the contract selection center in Nizhny Novgorod.
The FT contacted one of the mercenaries in Russia. He suggested that he was part of a group of about 200 Yemenis conscripted into the Russian army in September. The husband said he was lured to Russia with promises of lucrative jobs in “security” and “engineering,” and after only a few weeks at the front, he was hiding with four other newly arrived Yemenis in a forest in Ukraine.
According to the mercenary, one of the men tried to kill himself and was taken to the hospital.
In the past, the media wrote that almost 200 African women are now working at the plant in the Alabuga special economic zone in Tatarstan, a major production of drones in Russia. African women say they were tricked into assembling drones.
