One of the organizers of the blockade suggests the possibility of ending the action if specific actions are proposed.
On Sunday, November 24, Poland’s Agriculture Minister Czeslaw Sekierski will meet with a group of farmers blocking the Medika-Szegini checkpoint on the Ukrainian border. This was reported by RMF24.
Polish farmers have expressed two reasons for the protest at the Ukrainian border. The first is the failure to maintain the agricultural tax level in 2024 at the level of 2023, and the second is the “concern” about the European Union signing a free trade agreement with MERCOSUR countries in South America ( Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay). None of them have anything to do with Ukraine directly.
Sekierski has previously said that his ministry opposes the agreement with the Mercosur countries. He added that Poland, together with France, will block the entry into the EU market of food products that do not meet safety standards. The minister said that his department, together with the Ministry of Development and Technology, is now preparing a position on this issue, which must be adopted by the Council of Ministers on Tuesday.
One of the organizers of the blockade, Roman Kondrov, said that negotiations with the minister could end the blockade if Sekersky had a specific proposal for farmers.
As we have already written, on Saturday, November 23, Polish farmers blocked the Medika-Shegini checkpoint on the Ukrainian border. And at the entrance to Ukraine from the Polish side, there were 10 cargo vehicles in front of the participants of the action.
