In Transcarpathia, a deputy was sentenced to life imprisonment for detonating grenades during a session of the village council.
A deputy of the Keretskovsky village council was found guilty of committing a terrorist act that led to the death of people, as well as illegal handling of explosive devices (part 3 of article 258, part 1 of article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
He was sentenced to life imprisonment with confiscation of property, the Office of the Prosecutor General reported on November 22.
Prosecutors proved in court that on December 15, 2023, in the village of Keretski, Khust district, during a meeting of the village council, the convict committed a terrorist attack.
More than 20 people were injured from the grenade explosion. Two village council deputies died from multiple shrapnel wounds. One of them died the day after the incident, the other a month later.
It has been established that the deputy prepared for this in advance. A few months later, he acquired two RGD-5 offensive fragmentation grenades and an F-1 hand-held defensive fragmentation grenade, which he kept at his place of residence.
During the pre-trial investigation and trial, the convict was in custody in the State Institution “Transcarpathian GDP (No. 9)”. He will remain there until the verdict comes into force.
In addition, to compensate for the property damage caused to the Keretskovsky Village Council as a result of the terrorist attack, a civil claim has been filed against the deputy.
