A separate discussion took place, where South Africa’s role as a leader in international advocacy for children’s rights was discussed, as well as the country’s historical experience with human rights issues.
The Republic of South Africa has expressed its readiness to join the efforts of the Vatican and Qatar and has taken the role of mediator in the return of Ukrainian children exiled by the Russians. It is reported by the Office of the President.
A representative meeting on the return of Ukrainian children was held in Pretoria. The event was organized as part of the initiative of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky Bring Kids Back UA.
Anthony Triolo, senior specialist in transitional justice and government relations at the Partnership for a Strong Ukraine Foundation, introduced the work of the Bring Kids Back UA International Expert Group. He provided evidence of violations of international law and international humanitarian law related to the forced migration and deportation of Ukrainian children carried out by Russia.
Triolo noted the recommendations of experts given to the international community, as well as the importance of international organizations providing access to Ukrainian children in the Russian Federation.
There was also a separate panel discussion discussing South Africa’s role as a leader in international advocacy for children’s rights, as well as the country’s historical record on human rights issues.
We remind you that Ukraine managed to return 1002 children from Russian territory and temporarily occupied lands, but the Russian Federation forcibly expelled about 20 thousand more. This was announced by Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmitry Lubinets.
Earlier, he said that the highest military-political leadership of the Russian Federation was engaged in the forced deportation of Ukrainian children.
