In terms of the total number of people on Earth, this is 12 tracks for everyone. The most popular song in Shazam search history has been identified 45 million times.

Shazam has identified 100 billion songs since its release. On average, that’s 12 tracks for every person on Earth. Apple announced this on Wednesday, November 20.

It is said that if a person wanted to find that many tracks, he would have to use Shazam every second for 3,168 years.

By comparison, the most popular song in Shazam search history, Dance Monkey by Tones and I, was searched 45 million times—2,200 times less than the total number of Shazam searches.

Shazam is a song recognition program. It launched in 2002 as an SMS service in the UK, where music fans dialed 2580, picked up their phones to identify the music, and received the song title and artist via text message. Apple acquired Shazam in 2018 and now powers the music recognition feature built into iOS and macOS.

Let’s remember that in 2019, the most searched song on Shazam was Billie Eilish’s Bad Guy.
