Now Russia can use nuclear weapons in response not only to the use of weapons of mass destruction, but also to conventional weapons.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin approved Russia’s updated nuclear doctrine by decree. A document entitled On the approval of the bases of the state policy of the Russian Federation in the field of nuclear deterrence was published on the official portal of legal information on Tuesday, November 19.
According to the document, an attack by any state from the military coalition against Russia or its allies is considered an attack by the entire coalition. In the event of aggression by a non-nuclear state with the support of a nuclear one, Russia will consider it a joint attack.
Now the Russian Federation can use nuclear weapons in response not only to the use of weapons of mass destruction, but also conventional weapons, if a “critical threat to sovereignty or territorial integrity” is created for it or its allies.
At the same time, a nuclear response follows “reliable information about the launch of aerospace attack weapons towards Russia.” These are strategic and tactical aircraft, cruise missiles, drones, hypersonic and other aircraft.
Russia may also use nuclear weapons if ballistic missiles are used against it.
Let’s remember that in September of this year, the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, Sergei Ryabkov, said that Russia will change its nuclear doctrine based on the analysis of the conflicts of the past years and the so-called “escalation course” of the West. in connection with the Kremlin’s war against Ukraine.
Later it became known that Putin actually decided to expand the conditions for the use of nuclear weapons.
