The Turkish leader plans to present his project to stop the Russian war against Ukraine at the G20 summit.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan plans to present his “peace plan” for Russia’s war against Ukraine at the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Bloomberg reported this, citing sources.
Erdogan’s proposal involves a frozen battle over the current positions of the parties. The Turkish President also suggested postponing the discussion of Ukraine’s accession to NATO for at least 10 years.
The Turkish proposal also calls for the creation of a demilitarized zone in the Donbass, where Russia has controlled large parts of the territory since 2014. Erdogan will offer to station international troops there as an additional guarantee and guarantee the supply of arms to Ukraine in return for agreeing not to join NATO.
Turkish officials acknowledge that such a proposal would be difficult for Ukraine to accept, but believe it is the most realistic approach.
According to the publication’s sources, Erdogan has intelligence that Ukraine could lose more territory in the next few months if the fighting does not stop. So the Turkish leader hopes that he can convince the Ukrainian president to participate in the peace talks in Istanbul.
Let’s recall that at the end of May, China and Brazil outlined a common position on a political settlement of the war in Ukraine.
China, Brazil and several other countries in the Global South have agreed to create a “Friends of Peace” platform, within the framework of which they plan to promote a peaceful resolution of the “crisis in Ukraine.”
