Ukrainian nuclear power plants will reduce electricity production.
The decrease in electrical power at Ukrainian nuclear power plants is due to a Russian attack that damaged the country’s energy infrastructure. Russia’s armed anger creates additional pressure on nuclear security. This was stated by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, the agency’s press service reported.
It is noted that today’s attack by the aggressor country was aimed, among other things, at the substations on which the reliable operation of the Khmelnitsky, Rivne and South Ukrainian nuclear power plants depends.
Main lines from four substations have been disconnected, affecting the stability of power supply. Only two of the nine operating reactors are now operating at 100% capacity, and another six have reduced production to levels of 40-90%.
Grossi said grid stability is key to the safety of nuclear facilities. The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency noted the importance of observing the seven basic principles of nuclear safety, including ensuring reliable external power supplies for nuclear power plants.
Let us recall that on the morning of November 17, the Russian Federation launched a massive combined missile strike on Ukraine. The enemy attacks energy facilities and infrastructure in Nikolaev, Zaporozhye, Odessa, Volyn, Rivne, Ivano-Frankivsk, Vinnitsa, Poltava and other regions. Russia used 120 missiles and 90 drones for the attack.
