The £600 per month financial assistance initiative aims to support hosts facing high living costs.
The authorities of the British city of Elmbridge are offering financial assistance in the amount of 600 pounds per month to families who volunteer to shelter Ukrainian refugees, the BBC reports.
As reported by journalists, the initiative of financial assistance in the amount of 600 pounds per month is designed to support hosts who face high living costs.
It was noted that since the program started in March 2022, more than 300 households in Elmbridge have helped nearly 600 Ukrainians.
As journalists write, special attention is now given to families or people who already live in the city, but need to move to a new shelter.
The co-director of the local charity ElmbridgeCAN, Jeanne Tweedie, emphasized that the financial aid is important because it helps to offset the costs of maintaining the refugees.
“People don’t do it for the money, but the increased bills and costs of having someone else in the house makes this support very important,” he said.
As the BBC added, the ElmbridgeCAN organization, which was created in 2016 to help Syrian refugees, actively supports the integration of Ukrainians into the local community.
